Matric Granted ISO 13485 Certification for Medical Devices

Seneca, PA -- Matric, a full-service electronics manufacturing services provider, was recently granted ISO 13485 Medical Device certificaISO 13485 Imagetion by SARA Registrar.  ISO 13485 is an internationally recognized management system standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), specific to the manufacturing of medical devices.

 “Our 41 years Electronics Manufacturing experience coupled with our ISO 9001, AS 9100 and now the ISO 13485 certified quality management system, confirms our commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction in every aspect of the business,” says Tracy D. Sandell, Director of Quality at Matric.  She adds, “Having the ISO 13485 certification will make us eligible to build medical device products for customers that we were not previously qualified to build.”

Matric Honored as a 2011 Manufacturer of the Year Finalist

Pittsburgh, PA -- Matric was honored as a finalist at the Manufacturer of the Year (MOY) 2011 program in the 300 to 999 employees category on Thursday, December 1, 2011.

The program is administered by the Pittsburgh Business Times annually to showcase the premiere manufacturing companies in Western Pennsylvania and the surrounding region. There are five total categories based on emManufacturer of the Year Awardployee size and a "Sustainable" category to recognize those manufacturing companies taking steps to go "green" in their operations. Matric was also honored as a Sustainable finalist.

The awards banquet honored 21 finalists/category winners at a banquet held at the Omni William Penn Hotel in downtown Pittsburgh, PA. A social hour was held prior to the dinner. A new feature for the social hour this year was to have each company exhibit their products and/or services on a tabletop display. Matric displayed a variety of printed circuits boards, cable assemblies and literature to showcase Matric PCB capabilities and quality. It provided an excellent networking opportunity to easily answer any questions about what Matric manufactures and possibly develop future customer contacts.

Matric Installs New Automatic Optical Inspection Equipment

Seneca, PA -- Matric recently installed a new Mirtec MV-7xi Series Automatic Optical Inspection (AOI) machine.  New AOI Machine at MatricThe technologically advanced equipment features a 5 mega pixel top-down camera and 4 side view cameras that are also 5 mega pixels each.  The MV-7 features an Intelli-Scan Laser System that has superior lifted lead detection capabilities for problems such as lifted IC legs by measuring the height of the legs. An Intelli-Beam Laser System can measure the Z-height of BGA’s and CSP devices.

The Mirtec MV-7 software is greatly improved which should result in fewer false calls.  Programming the machine is significantly simplified and uses an automatic teaching software with a comprehensive package type library for simple “drag and drop” programming.

With all of these features, the MV-7 has unsurpassed defect detection, speed and accuracy.

 

Matric Adds Fourth Fully Automated Surface Mount Line

Seneca, PA -- Matric began utilizing the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) process to populate printed circuit boards in 1989.  Twenty-two years later, Matric has continued to build on its commitment to the SMT process by adding a fourth fully automated Surface Mount Technology (SMT) line to its existing fleet of high-tech manufacturing equipment.  The newest pick and place machine for the line boasts a maximum speed capable of placing up to 24,000 components per hour.  Combined with the 21,000 component placement speeds of the other 3 lines and the four SMT lines at Matric can collectively place up to 87,000 components per hour.Matric 4th SMT Line

At the heart of this fourth line is the newest MyData pick and place machine, the MY100SXe by MYDATA.  The latest models of MYDATA machines have undergone complete redesigns.  Some of the key features integrated into the new machine are the re-designed high speed mount head “Hydra” and the high precision mount head “Midas” (single mount).  The new Hydra is re-buildable in the field.  The new Midas has had a majority of the weight removed.  The improvements help to generate the faster 24,000 components per hour speed.  The new machine now has a CAN based control system.

Matric Adds Second Selective Solder Machine

Seneca, PA -- Matric recently invested in a second new Selective Soldering Machine, Model KISS-103.  KISS stands for “Keep It Simple Soldering”.  The machines are fully automatic and easily programmed.  The machines will accommodate PCB/Panels up to 18” X 24” in size. New KISS Selective Solder Machine

Both KISS-103 machines at Matric are equipped with several of the optional features, which will help make the most of the machine’s capabilities.  One feature is the optional no-lead alloy compatible solder pot with PID proportional temperature control.  The solder pots are compact and easily interchangeable to provide selective soldering capabilities for RoHS or leaded assemblies with little downtime.

Matric Associates Acquire ASQ Certification

Seneca, PA -- Jay & RamaMatric Associates Rama Chockalingham, Quality Engineer and Jay Weckerly, Quality Analyst both recently participated in certification programs administered through the American Society for Quality (ASQ).  Rama and Jay have each successfully passed their respective certification exams with flying colors.  The initial certification processes required a lot of hard work and dedication, as well as knowledge and proof of application skills.  ASQ requires that they maintain their certifications every three years and continue to grow their quality expertise.

Office Renovation Project at Matric

Seneca, PA -- In 1995, Matric moved its operations from the spatially challenged facility on Miller Road in Franklin, PA, to the current location at 2099 Hill City Road, in Seneca, PA.  Prior to moving, an extensive renovation was performed to the former Tippery Elementary School, which included covering the unsightly green block walls with ESD carpet.  This ultimately led to the naming of the office area as "Carpetland".  Manufacturing space was also added in 1995.  Since that time, there have been two more additions of manufacturing space to bring the facility total to 75,000 sq. ft.Matric Sign

In the summer of 2010, new exterior signage near Hill City Road at the entrance and on the building was added/replaced to kick off the renovation process.

Late in 2010, a plan was formed to begin the renovation process for the Carpetland office area to freshen and modernize the space.

Matric Celebrates 40 Years in the EMS Industry

Matric Limited in Seneca, PA, is celebrating 40 years in the electronics manufacturing service industry this year.  Over the decades, the company has remained on the cutting edge by continually investing in the technology and new equipment.  For instance, the company has had fully automatic surface mount technology (SMT) systems that are in-line and joined by conveyor systems since 2000.  In 2009, Matric placed 8.2 million parts using the three separate lines of automated SMT equipment.  The systems were upgraded with a sophisticated lot tracking program last year, as well.

Matric Executives Meet with New Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania

Oil City, PA. -- Matric executives recently attended the Oil Region Alliance’s annual breakfast meeting held at the Franklin Commons.Lt. Gov. visits Oil Region

The featured speaker at the event was Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania, Jim Cawley.  Mr. Cawley spoke about the power of the private sector in creating family-sustaining jobs to help turn around Pennsylvania’s economy.   Cawley also talked about curbing excess spending in Harrisburg, and the administration’s pledge “to not raise taxes.”   Just two months into the job, and facing a $4 billion budget deficit, Cawley and Governor Tom Corbett has found it necessary to freeze funding for more than 700 redevelopment projects.
