RoHS Compliance
Due to environmental concerns, the need for lead-free solutions in electronic components and systems is receiving increased attention within the electrical and electronics industries. Matric is a full service EMS provider that has the manufacturing ability ("lead" and "lead-free") to assist you with this transition in becoming RoHS compliant. Matric is committed to meet your specific infrastructure needs in order to comply with the restrictions of hazardous substances directive. Matric is one of the first companies in North America to receive IPC Certification for Lead Free Electronics Assembly Process Capability.

What is RoHS?
The European Union in February 2003 issued the RoHS directive that prohibits lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (Cr6), polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) or polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in most electronic products sold in Europe after July 1, 2006. In addition to Europe, other countries and states are following the EU legislation including: China, Japan, California and Maine. The purpose of this directive is to protect human health and the environment as it applies to electrical and electronic equipment.
How does this affect YOU?
The entire electronics industry is being significantly impacted by the RoHS directive. Contract manufacturers, OEM manufacturers, suppliers and electronic designers are forced to create solutions to become RoHS compliant and obtain supporting documentation in a cost-effective manner. Steps need to be taken in order to analyze bills of material for RoHS compliance. Once the bills of material are assessed, redesign may be required.
How Matric can help?
If you are searching for a fully-integrated, cost-effective analysis of your product, Matric is here for you! Matric, a full service provider, has the engineering capabilities to aid in providing compliance status, alternates, substitutions and redesign for your products. Matric is prepared to provide services for RoHS compliance in two separate product offerings:
Option 1
Bills of Material / Product Analysis (analyze bills of material for RoHS compliance and provide supporting documentation to confirm your product conformance status)
Option 2
RoHS Compliant Substitution/Alternates (analysis of current non-compliant components and cross reference to RoHS compliant components)
Matric is dedicated to manufacturing RoHS compliant products. The SMT systems at Matric feature MYDATA 21,000 component per hour pick and place machines coupled with in-line, 7-stage convection ovens that are lead-free process ready.
Disclaimer: Matric is gathering information provided by individual component manufacturers and does not pledge the accuracy of the information supplied. Substitutions or alternates are only suggestions. The customer's engineering group must review the suitability of the proposed substitution/alternate to the design of their product.
