Seneca, PA — Matric began utilizing the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) process to populate printed circuit boards in 1989. Twenty-two years later, Matric has continued to build on its commitment to the SMT process by adding a fourth fully automated Surface Mount Technology (SMT) line to its existing fleet of high-tech manufacturing equipment. The newest pick and place machine for the line boasts a maximum speed capable of placing up to 24,000 components per hour. Combined with the 21,000 component placement speeds of the other 3 lines and the four SMT lines at Matric can collectively place up to 87,000 components per hour.
At the heart of this fourth line is the newest MyData pick and place machine, the MY100SXe by MYDATA. The latest models of MYDATA machines have undergone complete redesigns. Some of the key features integrated into the new machine are the re-designed high speed mount head “Hydra” and the high precision mount head “Midas” (single mount). The new Hydra is re-buildable in the field. The new Midas has had a majority of the weight removed. The improvements help to generate the faster 24,000 components per hour speed. The new machine now has a CAN based control system.
Each of the four fully automated lines feature a dedicated EKRA X5 screen printer, a MYDATA pick and place machine and an Electrovert Omni Excel 7-stage convection oven. The three machines in each line are joined by a conveyor, which transports the boards from machine to machine – eliminating the need for human handling.
The SMT lines also feature sophisticated software programs called MYLabel and MYTrace. MYLabel keeps track of quantity, batch ID, stock location and other data – for each and every component. MYTrace is a solution for secure, long-term storage of traceability data that provides easy access to the data for searching and reporting. The MYLabel and MYTrace programs work together to provide an intelligent lot tracking system that streamlines the entire process and helps eliminate errors in the SMT process.
